May 21, 2024

Would-be thieves allegedly shot at a man after he disrupted them from stealing his SUV, and then followed them as they were making their getaway.

The incident occurred at about 5:19 p.m. Aug. 19.

According to Taylor police, the ordeal began while the vehicle owner was inside Meijer, 14640 Pardee.

While he was shopping, he received an alert from his security alarm service indicating a problem with his Dodge Durango.

After rushing out of the store, he saw the driver’s side rear window was broken out and there was an unknown black male in his late teens to early 20s wearing all black climbing out of his vehicle.

As he continued to run towards his vehicle, he saw another black male similar in age and wearing similar clothes, climb out of his vehicle and get into a blue Dodge Charger SRT that was parked next to his vehicle.

The Charger, which police said did not have a license plate on it, then fled east through the parking lot across the street into the Southland Center parking lot.

While the Charger was in the mall lot, he observed it exit and head northbound on Pardee.

The man decided to try and follow the Charger, but lost it headed northbound on Pardee.

He pulled into the southeast parking lot at Pardee and North Line in front of Mac’s Liquor and saw the Charger stopped at the North Line light northbound on Pardee behind another vehicle.

The Charger began to honk at the vehicle in front of it and the vehicle turned, allowing the Charger to turn eastbound onto North Line.

Once on North Line just east of Pardee, the passenger of the Charger pointed a handgun at the man and then fired three or four rounds, according to police.

The man was not struck, nor was his vehicle.

Police said another vehicle in the lot was hit by gunfire.

No one was hurt.

Police said the man did not continue to follow the suspects anymore.

The driver of the Charger fled eastbound on North Line towards Allen Road and I-75.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Taylor Police Department at 734-374-1420.
